Gardens and Orchard

The cutting garden is underway! Each Tuesday, I will share a new flower that has been added to the NEW Buttercup Farm Cutting Garden.
SONATA CARMINE COSMOS
I am starting with my favorite cutting flower … COSMOS.
The flowers are easy to maintain as long as you are willing to dead-head the blooms gone by…
I chose this variety for the VIBRANT COLORS and LONG-SEASON display of beautiful blooms.
Give lots of sun and water and plant in fertile, well-drained soil.
I use cosmos in loose arrangements, as well as single flower bud vases.

During these first weeks of Spring on the east coast, our days can often look like this…
Finding the EMERGENT SPRING COLOR FEST peering through our GREY and BROWN mornings, is a daily delight.
Good Morning Day Lilies…
Welcome Back Weeping Cherry…
Hello Magnolia Buds…
So very good to see you ALL again.
Also, don’t forget…it is “A Beautiful Life” Friday over at The Inspired Room . Take a few minutes to check out all of the post links you will find there. It is a great weekend treat!

After months of pouring through Books and Magazines…I have found my VEGETABLE GARDEN INSPIRATION! When I design a garden or a room…it comes down to this question…How do I want to FEEL when I am working in it, looking at it, and living with the it.
This garden makes me feel “LUSH, COLORFUL, and BOUNTIFUL”.
Designed with undulating pickets (ranging from 4 to 6 feet), this fencing system made out of rough cedar, will help discourage deer from entering.
Dividing the garden space into a four square design easily allows for both utilitarian function and beauty. And, the “Early American” style of this garden, matches the look of our home and existing gardens.
I am thinking about attaching the FLOWER and HERB garden to the VEGETABLE garden. TWO Big FENCED Squares attached by ONE LONG PATHWAY! BEAUTEOUS!

The question Gaby asked when she woke up yesterday morning.
“No darling”, I answered, “but you can slip, break an arm, a leg, a finger, a nose…” My goodness is this stuff dangerous. I feel like I am fighting for my life everytime I step outside. Weatherman says, “two more snow events in the next 4 days”. I was hoping for SUNNY and 50.
