Gardens and Orchard

There is nothing quite like looking at a newly fallen snow on a sunny Sunday morning. I could literally sit in a comfy chair all day and stair out the window. Pine branches are covered in snow weighing them into perfect droopy form. What a site…..

A miraculous load of snow forcing the busiest east coast folk to S.T.O.P. We are nearing 30 inches here at Buttercup Farm. Loved this day…a nap…a book…giggles….cooking stew and cookies…talking to friends on the phone…listening to music…..I will call it a GIFT of the best kind.

The rain has been plentiful and this means good things in Maryland. The drought has been lifted, the lettuce is plentiful, and the hydrangeas have EXPLODED…I mean….EXPLODED! Hydrangeas surround my home both inside and out and I couldn’t be happier.

A VIBRANT and LONG LASTING color burst in our summer garden, the Everlasting Rose Bushes are planted in two areas on the farm. The first cluster flanks the sidewalk leading to the house and the second hugs the back patio. Both “gardens” shout hot pink all summer long. Beautiful for cutting and adding to little vessels like the one above OR for leaving the blooms on the bushes.
Some gardeners cut them ALL the way back each winter, but I prefer to have them BIG, FAT, and TALL. We performed a “small prune” this year (for the first time in 4 years) and they are already as big as they were last summer!
I have DREAMS of adding more along the entire front of our property when we add the fence. A spectacle of color on Buttercup Farm for passers-by!

The CUTTING GARDEN IS PLANTED! We included lots of color and variety. We had a few extra nooks in our raised boxes, so we planted our herbs, lettuces, and a few tomato and cucumber plants too! Take a peek.
Here is peek of the newly planted garden.
Also, don’t forget…it is “A Beautiful Life” Friday over at The Inspired Room . Take a few minutes to check out all of the post links you will find there. It is a great weekend treat!
For another fun treat, check out what is going on over at Hooked on Houses with the amazingly creative Juila!

These beauties make wonderful additions to the summer, fall and winter flower arrangements. They are as beautiful in arrangements of one, as they are massed in a bundle.
We currently have over 25 Hydrangea bushes on the property. Some turn pink, or purple…
…but many stay a bright green color…which I love just as much.
Here is a list of the other “Cutting Garden Tuesday” flowers:
