Peep, Peep, Peep

This morning at 7:30 am we received a phone call from the U.S. Post Office notifying us that our new chicks had arrived. The girls couldn’t contain their excitement and I let them miss the bus in order to help us unload the box. For fun we decided to go with a mixed batch giving us several new bird breeds. In about 16 weeks each of these birds will each be laying eggs….25 eggs a day to be exact. That is in addition to the four eggs we already get a day from our Rhode Island Reds.

The girls are going to sell the eggs to neighbors and friends, giving them a chance to learn some basic business/work/life skills. The egg business is the first piece to a little venture we are working on right now, “Buttercup Farm Goods”.

For now, these peeps will be in the mudroom keeping warm while they are growing up a bit.

Buttercup Barn Babies

Oh, lawdy…is there anything cuter? Ok…my kids were cuter…and perhaps my puppies…but seriously…

We saved our new babies from a local shelter. As soon as they are a little bigger, it gets a little warmer, and they are spayed and fully vaccinated (responsible pet owners we are!!)…they will be moved out to the barn studio where they will have an interesting life surrounded by art, dancing, and a few mouse friends. They will have freedom to come and go as they please, doze in the sun, and leisurely stroll around the farm.

But for now…they will be spoiled rotten…….

I am not sure how long labor lasted…but I am sure it was longer than usual. Poor, poor, Mama…she did it without an epidural too. She is the “au natural type” ya know. We are thinking that we possibly have a triplet situation on our hands….maybe quads. Perhaps I should contact TLC…I hear they might have a time slot available for a new “multiples” show.

She has recovered well…I think she is even fitting in her old feathers again.
